Tipu Khan, MD, FASAM
Candidate for Regional Director
Region II - California
Tipu Khan, MD, FASAM. I am an academic ADM physician - ADM Fellowship Director and Chief of Service for our county hospital. Under my leadership we have instituted a busy outpatient clinic, inpatient consult service, and inpatient detox program which is the first of its kind in California. I am a core faculty member for our FM residency and train all our residents in basic MAT. I helped author the CMQCC NAS toolkit for managing SUD in pregnancy. I have been involved with the CSAM Conference planning committee for 4 years and will be the 2026 Chair.
Why does all that matter? I work for a county hospital in Southern California and through my tenure I have learned that 10% of what we do in ADM is medicine, 90% is advocacy. I would like to translate my experience as a front-line physician and leader to advocacy on the regional and national level. I look forward to learning from the wonderful minds at ASAM while working collaboratively with our thought leaders on advancing the delivery of Addiction Medicine Care.
Candidate Questionnaire Responses
1. What have been your greatest contributions to ASAM or to the field of addiction medicine over the last 10 years?
Co-Authoring the CMQCC NAS Toolkit and the creating of California's first public hospital ADM run detox unit.
2. How would your election to the 探花合集 Board of Directors benefit ASAM and the field of addiction medicine?
I am innovative and think outside the box. My years of public service have taught me how to adapt my delivery of care to meet the needs of my community as it evolves both socially and based on the drug market. I have fought for the most vulnerable in our society my whole career and now I look forward to taking that advocacy to ASAM to enact more universal change in Addiction Medicine.
