Twenty years ago this week, the PlayStation console changed the face of video games. With 3D graphics and games aimed at more mature audiences, the console marked the beginning of a sea change for gaming.
Sony has changed and refined that hardware a great deal over the course of 20 years, turning the original PlayStation into a sleeker, boxier artifact. The controller saw changes, too, as Sony refined the shape based on player feedback. It also released peripherals such as cameras to experiment with more interactive, motion-based technology.
