GameStop video game release dates
Paul Tassi covered the announcement, which brings Rocksteady’s Arkham series to a close in 2014, with the final game in the series also the first to run on next-gen systems.
“In the explosive finale to the Arkham series, Batman faces the ultimate threat against the city that he is sworn to protect, ” Warner Bros. writes. “The Scarecrow returns to unite an impressive roster of super villains, including Penguin, Two-Face and Harley Quinn, to destroy The Dark Knight forever. Batman: Arkham Knight introduces Rocksteady’s uniquely designed version of the Batmobile, which is drivable for the first time in the franchise.”
Now the game’s (ostensible) release date has been leaked in an ad by video game retailer GameStop:
October 14th, 2014 makes sense. launched in October of 2011.
I admit I’m a little surprised we’re seeing a new Arkham game this soon in the first place. Arkham Asylum launched in 2009. That leaves two years between each release and then just one year between Origins and Knight.
With Origins running up against some less-than-stellar reviews, and having been developed by Warner Bros. Games Montreal rather than Rocksteady, it makes me wonder if the game was viewed as little more than a place-holder between Arkham City and the next-gen Arkham Knight.
Either way, look forward to what’s hopefully a vastly improved open-world Batman game come October. And remember that this is a GameStop ad, not official confirmation of the game’s release date by the developer or publisher.
