* All versions of the PS3 system will be able to read from and write to most USB storage devices. There may be a few manufacturers' USB storage devices that will not work correctly with the PS3 system. For external USB storage devices, they must be formatted to the FAT 32 format in order for it to be recognized by the PS3. To do so, please contact the manufacturer of the USB storage device.
Additionally, devices that can be properly plugged in to the USB port of your PS3 do not have to be officially licensed by Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA), but they must be USB certified. Typically, a USB certified product would have the official USB logo on the package, manual or on the "belly" label of the product itself.
You will void your warranty on the PS3 if you plug devices into the USB port that are not USB certified. In addition, such devices can cause problems; for example, a device that is not USB certified might draw too much electrical power, thereby damaging your system.
We are unable to offer any information regarding specific USB devices. Please note that it is possible that some products that claim to be USB certified are actually not USB certified. We recommend contacting the manufacturer of the device directly to determine if it is USB certified. It is the responsibility of the company offering the product to provide accurate information about whether or not a particular device is USB certified.
