PlayStation 4 Japan
Today Sony have announced that commerce will end in the Japanese and Asian regions of PlayStation Home from September 24th, with the scheduled service termination at the end of March 2015.
The following comes from a press release from PlayStation in Japanese, which I have translated:
Sony Computer Entertainment Japan Asia will end the PlayStation®Home service in Asia and Japan at the end of March 2015. Along with this, the start of the maintenance for PlayStation®Home on September 24 2014 will end the sale of content in Asia and Japan.
While previously new content has not been appearing on the platform, PlayStation Home has continued to operate in these regions. This confirms that as of March 2015, the Japanese and Asian regions of Home will be inaccessible. Note that this does not affect the European and American PlayStation Home regions, which are operated separately and continue to be updated each week. Sony confirmed as such in their press release (translated).
It should be noted that unlike the services offered in Asia and Japan, PlayStation®Home services which SCEE and SCEA provide are excluded from this announcement.
There is still plenty of time to visit these regions before their closure, just not that purchasing items will be no longer available come September 24th 2014. As a silver-lining, PlayStation are now preparing a “large-scale event” for the closing period, which based on previous events held in the Asian regions of PlayStation Home, should be worth a look at.
